Why the Gila?
The Gila National Forest makes up a part of the Gila in southwest New Mexico. Within the National Forest, there are minimal regulations to keep the environment in as best condition as possible. Within the Gila National Forest is the Gila Wilderness. The Wilderness operates with a strict "Leave No Trace" principle to ensure the most preservation of the land as possible.

Gila Cliff Dwellings
Within the Gila Wilderness can be found the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. It is at this site that the Mogollon people - early inhabitants of the Gila - built homes into the side of the cliffs circa the 1280's. These preserved dwellings offer a glimpse into the culture and lifestyle of early people in the area.
The diverse ecosystem and culture found within the forest are well preserved as a National Park and Wilderness. However, just because these specific areas are protected doesn't mean the history and heritage of the area stop at the Park's border. Hundreds of years of developing land and culture spread their reach far beyond the Park, creating a unique environment and story that cannot be found elsewhere. While the land within the Park is protected, it becomes our job to protect what reaches beyond - ages of cultures, civilizations, land development, mining towns, and so much more are slowly being lost over time. By purchasing properties in the areas of the Gila, we can do our part to preserve them in an authentic and caring way that does not disturb the rich legacy found in the Gila area.
